  1. I think gamification dumbs down the student. If you look to important educators like Montessori you can see a good rationale for giving no rewards or punishments. Essentially, the key is to foster internal self motivation and not train the student to rely on external rewards, particularly superficial ones. They are not necessary, knowledge and progress is it’s own reward.

It takes your core content and objectives and makes it fun while gaming is the application of game mechanics in a non-game context to promote desired behavior and drive learning outcomes.
